Schloss Johannisberg Winter Wedding

LISA + MAXIMILIAN
DECEMBER, 2024
GEISENHEIM, GERMANY

There’s something quietly powerful about a winter wedding—especially one held at a place as timeless as Schloss Johannisberg. Nestled above the Rhine River and surrounded by vineyards, this historic estate becomes even more magical in the colder months. The stillness of winter adds a layer of intimacy that you simply can’t recreate in summer. This wedding was the perfect example of that.

From the moment I arrived, I could feel how intentional everything was. Every detail of the day was designed with care, but never felt overly styled. It was refined and emotional, without being over the top. Candlelight reflected softly off the historic walls, creating a warm atmosphere despite the chill outside.

What I loved most about Lisa and Maximilian’s wedding was how much space they gave themselves and their guests to actually be present. We didn’t rush through portraits; instead, we took some time with the fading winter light behind them. Just before dinner, every guest received a handwritten letter from the couple—personal, honest, and full of love. As people opened their envelopes, you could feel the emotion ripple through the room. A few tears, some smiles, and this overwhelming sense of connection. It set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Winter weddings require a different kind of energy. There’s less daylight, yes—but there’s also more intention. You want a setting that can hold emotion without distraction. Something that Lisa and Maximilian mastered.
